Film Incentives in the Dominican Republic

Updated: Jan 31

Breathtaking sceneries, tropical jungles, extensive beaches, multidisciplinary talent and state of the art facilities aren’t the only reason why you should bring your production to the Dominican Republic. Your production may apply to a 25% tax credit of all expenses incurred in Dominican territory by law. This includes hiring of personnel and purchases of goods and services supported with the pertinent documentation. Here are some pointers to take into consideration when applying to the incentive: - There’s a minimum of $500,000 USD production costs to be spent and a requirement to hire a percentage of local Dominican crew. - The projects available to apply are Feature Films, TV movies, TV Series, TV Mini Series, TV Reality Shows, Documentaries, Telenovelas and Music Videos. - The incentive allows Article 39, for foreign investments in the Dominican Republic, to apply for a transferable tax credit of up to 25% of production expenses, to a taxpayer of the Dominican Republic. The government issues the credit after validation of the project, and then it needs to be transferred (sold) to a DR taxpayer. Shooting in Dominican Republic means finding yourself in a win-win situation.
